Bialetti – Moka pots & coffee
Italian company since 1919
Bialetti is the company that created the Moka Express in 1933 — the octagonal pot that became a symbol of Italian kitchens and sits in almost every Italian home.
It also produces ground coffee in the Perfetto Moka range, ground specifically for moka pots — including flavoured versions such as hazelnut, vanilla and caramel.

Frequently asked questions about Bialetti
- How does a moka pot work?
- Water boils in the lower chamber and steam pushes it up through the ground coffee. It gives strong coffee without an espresso machine.
- How many cups does it hold?
- Moka pots are measured in espresso cups, not mugs. A three-cup pot yields around 150ml in total — choose by how many of you drink.
- Which coffee for a moka pot?
- Coffee ground specifically for moka — a medium grind. Espresso grind is too fine and clogs the filter; filter grind is too coarse and gives weak coffee.
- Should it be washed with soap?
- Traditionally no — hot water only. Soap strips the coffee oil layer that gives the pot its flavour.
